SplatterTribe: First things first, does it piss you off when someone calls you at 4 o'clock in the morning?
Eddie Spaghetti: (laughs) Yeah, it doesn't thrill me that's for sure but, you know, I'm a good sleeper, so I'm able to get back to sleep no problem.
|
SplatterTribe: Introduce Yourself, and the band members.
Eddie Spaghetti: Uhm, I'm Eddie Spaghetti, the bass player and singer. We've got Scott Churilla drums. We've got Dan 'Thunder' Bolton on guitar and Ron Heathman on the other guitar.
SplatterTribe: For those who don't know who the SuperSuckers are how would you describe what you do?
Eddie Spaghetti:
I don't know, we're just kind of an American Rock Band, you know. We play a

little bit of Country Music. We mainly do the Rock Music & we do it quite well. If anybody likes AC/DC or Ramones or Motorhead, they're gonna like what we do.
SplatterTribe: Tell us a little about your upcoming tour starting at the end of the month that takes you to Spain, Portugal and etc..
Eddie Spaghetti:
We're exited to go over there again. We really like it over there. It's been long enough now where I think there's gonna be some excitement about the shows. We're gonna go over there with Nashville Pussy, so that's gonna be a good, strong bill to be apart of and we're really exited about it.
SplatterTribe: What kind of reaction do you get from people in Spain & Portugal?
Eddie Spaghetti:
Spain, they eat it up. I don't think we've been to Portugal. So we're looking forward to that. But Spain, we do really well in Spain. We always have since our very first trip over there. The Spanish people really eat it up.
SplatterTribe:
What countries do you seem to get a more surprising reaction out of?
Eddie Spaghetti:
Well, Spain is definitely one of the standouts and the UK has been really good for us. Sweden is really good for us. Some of the places that standout that aren't so good are like France, Italy. I think because they're used to doin like, kind of, a dance, sort of a Disco night every night. The live music doesn't really translate good over there.
SplatterTribe:
Still worth the trip though?
Eddie Spaghetti:
Oh, yeah definitely still worth the trip.
SplatterTribe:
So are you a sightseer on the road?
Eddie Spaghetti:
I try to be, you know. I try to get out and do a little walk around everywhere we go and see as much of the towns as we can. You know, were usually in a town less than 24 hours. So we have a limited amount of time to see things, but we definitely try to get out and see as much as we can, because it's really cool to be over there. There's so much history in Europe compared to here. Something that's 200 years old here is really ancient, but over there it's not uncommon to see things that are six, seven, 800 years old.
|

|
SplatterTribe:
You ever check out any bands while your in foreign lands?
Eddie Spaghetti:
Usually unless they are on the bill with us, we don't get to see to many other acts out there, because we're doing so many shows and we don't have many nights off.
SplatterTribe: Most of your time is probably spent traveling when over there, huh?
Eddie Spaghetti:
Yeah, there is quite a bit of traveling there, for sure.
|
SplatterTribe:
So what do you do on your downtime from touring?
Eddie Spaghetti:
Yard work (laughs)
SplatterTribe:
Can't get out of that huh?
Eddie Spaghetti:
(laughs) Naw, can't even get out of that.
SplatterTribe:
You have a family scene?
Eddie Spaghetti:
Yeah, I have a wife and kid. I just kinda do, uhm, you know, I'm just kind of the Rock N Roll Dad when I'm at home.
SplatterTribe:
Is your writing done separate or do you do alot of writing at home?
Eddie Spaghetti:
Yeah, I try to do some of that every morning. I try to pick up the guitar and pick around on it a little bit. See what I can come up with. I've been doing alot of that on the road lately too. So that's been working out for me well
SplatterTribe:
Ok, we're gonna do the SplatterTribe version of Storytellers now. I'm gonna name some random songs from your career and you say whatever comes to mind about them.
'Paid'
Eddie Spaghetti:
'Paid', that was uh, that was a cool riff. That was actually a cool riff I had for along time and I had some words that just sort of lent itself to that vibe, you know. What it's like to be on the road and how we're just kind of slaves to the road; because we have to make our money. (It's about) how similar it is to a guy who works a 9-5 job. How you've gotta work and you've gotta get paid.
SplatterTribe:
'Team Man'
Eddie Spaghetti:
(laughs) That's just a fun goof on BE STRONG, BE WRONG. We wanted to have something for the guys
SplatterTribe:
'Bruises To Prove It'
Eddie Spaghetti:
That one was actually inspired by.....my wife, one was getting her drink on a little bit and fell down outside of the club. She pulled her friend down with her and the next day they had all of these bruises. We were joking that she had the bruises to prove it and that became a song.
SplatterTribe:
That's Rock N Roll right there....
Eddie Spaghetti:
Yeah, totally.
SplatterTribe:
'Sleepy Vampire'
Eddie Spaghetti:
That one was actually another one inspired by the Miss' . When she was pregnant she wasn't sleeping to well. So I joked about her being a Sleepy Vampire and you know, I once again turned that into another good, good song.
SplatterTribe:
'Killer Weed'
Eddie Spaghetti:
(laughs) That one's pretty self explanatory. That one was written on the road. You know, somebody brought some 'Killer Weed' backstage and the chorus was born. Then I kind of just fleshed it out from there.
SplatterTribe:
'I Don't Wanna Know'
Eddie Spaghetti:
'I Don't Wanna Know', that's a pretty interesting song. That one was just a rip on everyone having to know everything all the time. And my , kind of desire to not know everything all of the time. My sort of blissful ignorance takes me through life, I think. Sometime to a detriment, but usually it works out in my favor to not know to much about any one thing and I sort of glide through that way.
|
SplatterTribe: So, what's the fine line between your solo stuff and Supersuckers stuff?
Eddie Spaghetti:
Well, the solo stuff generally centers around alot of covers and I write a few songs here and there that lend themselves more to sort of the acoustic vibe. If I get a few in my pocket and I'm in the studio recording these covers, I tend to throw them at the wall and see what sticks. Sometimes it's to the bands dismay that I've done that. They go like, "You know, I'd really liked to have |
 |
played on 'Here We Go'." So we wind up playing that song live. It all winds up in the Supersuckers den anyways. I'm not trying to be some solo artiste or anything. I just like to keep busy and give the guys a break sometimes. That's how it started anyways. You know, it became a nice little thing I do when the band has down time. I'm able to keep on going.
SplatterTribe: Do the other guys do any projects on down time? Or do they prefer the downtime?
Eddie Spaghetti:
No, so far they just prefer the downtime. I mean Rob sometimes has the occasional project here and there but generally speaking, it's just me that keeps busy in the meantime.
SplatterTribe: You guys are from Arizona and the made the decision to move to either Seattle or New Orleans, with Seattle winning out. This was right before Seattle hit big in the 90's. Did you have any idea what you was heading into?
Eddie Spaghetti:
No, we had no idea it was about to become Rock Mecca USA. We were really glad we did though. It was a super thrilling thing to be a part of. You know, to be involved and know some of the people that were having this huge success was cool. You know, because we saw it was possible. In the meantime there was never anything like that........There was never a spotlight shining on our city or anything like that (before the move). We thought when we were gonna go up to Seattle and be the best band they ever saw. We thought for sure. You know, who's in Seattle? What band has ever came out of Seattle (laughs) and then we get up here and there's all of these awesome bands. We were like, "Oh man, we've got alot of work to do!"
SplatterTribe: So if you had chose New Orleans would you still be the same Supersuckers?
Eddie Spaghetti:
Yeah, I don't think we'd still be a band if we'd went to New Orleans. It was a really fortunate thing that we wound up in Seattle. To make us hunger for that success and see that it was possible.
SplatterTribe:
Your songs have been used on several TV programs through the years, I noticed on your bio it said one such program was Beverly Hills 90210, can I get a WTF?
Eddie Spaghetti:
(laughs) It was a scene where uh.....I think....Steve was his name, was being.....not so good. He was gettin' involved in some drugs I think, or something like that. They played our song, "Bad, Bad, Bad" during some scene where he was doing stuff he shouldn't be doing.
SplatterTribe: That is hilarious.
Eddie Spaghetti:
Yeah, it was awesome.
SplatterTribe: I'm gonna throw some names out at you but first I have a question about Willie Nelson. Is he an endless supply of one liners as he appears to be?
Eddie Spaghetti:
Yes he is. He's an endless supply of one liners and an endless supply of Killer Weed.
SplatterTribe:
Well that's another thing, Toby Keith has that song were he says he'll never get high with Willie again. Is he an amateur?
Eddie Spaghetti:
(laughs) I think alot of people walk off that bus saying the very same thing. A friend of mine, one time we went on his bus and the friend of mine fainted (laughs) that was pretty funny. He says he passed out but we say he fainted.
SplatterTribe: Ok, Billy Joe Shaver
Eddie Spaghetti:
Oh yeah, he's great. He actually was at one of our shows recently at South by SouthWest last year and got into a fight with a bunch of young kids. (He) got kicked out of the club. It was fantastic.
SplatterTribe: He's awesome.
Eddie Spaghetti:
Yeah, he's a Hellraiser still and he's a brilliant songwriter too.
 |
SplatterTribe: Hank III
Eddie Spaghetti:
You know, we've only had one run in with Hank III and it wasn't that positive. You know, I need to give him another try cause I like his music, you know. We played a show with him, it was the South By Southwest show and he threw like a,, a little fit onstage because the distortion pedal wasn't working or something like that and he stormed off stage. Left everybody
|
hanging and kinda put a bad taste in my mouth toward him. So I think I need to give him another shot because I hear he's a nice guy. That he's a fan of the Supersuckers. So uhm, you know, I wantta like him.
SplatterTribe: Riki Rachtman
Eddie Spaghetti:
Riki Rachtman, he's a cool guy. He's actually been really good to the Supersuckers. He wore our t-shirt on one of the shows he was hosting on MTV. To see him on that show (though), Charm School show, that's real funny.
SplatterTribe: WeeMan
Eddie Spaghetti:
Wee man's a good guy to. He's really great.....Little Jason Acuna. He's super cool. He's been really good to the Supersuckers.
SplatterTribe: Ok, give me some of your individual influences
Eddie Spaghetti:
I don't know, I'm influenced by greed, gluttony, sloth. The seven deadly sins are my main influences.
SplatterTribe:
I ask those I interview if they have a good question to ask a future interviewee. The question I have for you is from Jeff
Cerzosie of
The Infinite Staircase. His question is, "I know as much as anyone just how depressing, stressful, and disheartening the music industry can be. How do you keep or get yourself out of a rut when the music industry gets the best of you?"
Eddie Spaghetti:
Oh man, that's a good question. You just got to count your lucky stars. You gotta be thankful for what you have and not focus on what you don't have. That's a big problem, I think for bands at our level. They tend to focus on the negative aspects of what they have and not the positive. You know, You just, kinda, gotta keep positive as much as you can. Your lucky to have this be your career, if it's your career. Your lucky to have this be a side thing, if it's a side project for ya. You're lucky to have it. (You've Got to) constantly think of it as a good thing in your life and not be hung up on what somebody else is getting....or what someone else is dealing with. What your doing is what's important to you.
SplatterTribe: Do you have a random question I can ask a future interviewee?
Eddie Spaghetti:
(pause) Uhm, Yeah. What do you like to eat on the road? What's your favorite food to eat on the road?
SplatterTribe: Ok, what come to mind when you hear the words SplatterTribe?
Eddie Spaghetti:
Uhm, I picture people covered in blood. Running naked through the streets covered in blood.
SplatterTribe: You have an alcohol related recipe for us?
Eddie Spaghetti:
(pause) Well, I guess I'm just kind of a beer drinkin' guy, So anything you can chase down with a beer would be my favorite thing to eat.
SplatterTribe: Songwriting time, I wrote a verse, then when Grim did his interview he wrote a verse, then when Lenny from The Infinite Staircase did his interview, he wrote two lines. I need you to write 2 more.
Me:
Although it was oh so quiet
My ears were about to burst
Grim:
but the flames overtook the darkness
and I was the one burnt first
Lenny:
then with the blink of an eye
it happened so fast
Eddie Spaghetti:
She came up and threw me down
And kicked my ass
SplatterTribe: Closing comments?
Eddie Spaghetti: remember to wear your clean underwear when you come to the Supersuckers show cause we are gonna Rock your pants right off of ya. Thanks for spreading the word about the band, I appreciate it.
