Cory Manahan

of 'Manahan'

Cory Manahan, a 16 year old Canadian guitar wonder who fronts his own 3-piece band called Manahan, started playing guitar at 10 years old and man, did he start playing. I recently received an email from Cory basically telling me that about himself, as well as, supplying me with several links leading to outlets where I could hear and see for myself.

That lead me to Youtube where the first thing I saw was Cory playing and singing Voodoo Child by Jimi Hendrix. Now, if there is one rule of thumb that I live by people, it is that anyone who performs Voodoo Child is completely Awesome! The fact that this kid is 16 is even more Awesome. So of course, I had to get this kid a Q & A and get him up here on SplatterTribe.TV.

Well, he agreed to it! So here's the Q & A and all the links you need to find out about this kid yourself. A couple of disclaimers from my end though. First, for some reason Cory has since taken the Voodoo Child video down. So it appears to be no longer available. Second, this ain't my kid, so his potty mouth is not my problem!

Primal Email Interview with Cory Manahan

SplatterTribe: Introduce

yourself, your band and compare yourself and each member to a character from a movie and explain why the comparison.

Cory Manahan: Hello!
My name is Cory Manahan from the band MANAHAN, I'm lead Vocals and Lead Guitar, I would be Spiderman cause I'm always jumping around and shit on stage!

Kevin (bass) would be Austin Powers always trying to get chicks haha.

Ken (drummer) would be the Grinch because he is Grouchy haha.

SplatterTribe: Now, the most hated question in the world but I'ma gonna keep askin' it anyways! For anyone who has no idea who or what Manahan is, how would you describe your sound.

Cory Manahan: I would say, Our sound is a very heavy Groove Metal with lots of Hooks and Catchy, Melodic, Technical parts!

SplatterTribe: Why do you think it bothers musicians so much to describe their sound?

Cory Manahan: Cause you have to think about it a lot! and everyone doesn't know what you mean sometimes! haha

SplatterTribe: You are 16 years old and have been playing since you was 10? How and why did you initially start playing at 10 and what was the first song you learned?

Cory Manahan: I started playing by listening to Ozzy (and) Zeppelin. I remember seeing a Ozzy DVD Live and Loud with Zakk Wylde I watched it everyday and studied every move and lick..

The first song I would of learn would be Crazy Train or Whole Lotta Love.

SplatterTribe: Finish these 3 sentence's for me........

Cory Manahan:

If you don't like Manahan you can........
Go listen to LiL Wayne and jerk off

Nothing annoys me more than.....
EMOS AND SCENE KIDS!

You should check out Manahan because.....

Anyone that digs metal will like us I hope.

SplatterTribe: Word association time.

Cory Manahan:

Music - Metal
Entertainment - Porn hahahaha
Art - Guitar
Life - Music

SplatterTribe:  Do you believe in the paranormal and have you ever had any paranormal experiences?

Cory Manahan: Nahhhhhhhh

SplatterTribe: We have a section on our forum where we feature a SplatterTribe Proverb Of The Week, for example -If Life Give's You lemons, Learn to throw....really hard.- I was wondering if you had a good

proverb we could use in the future?

Cory Manahan:  If she has tits, fuck her

SplatterTribe: Make one sentence using the following words or phrases.

Man
Hand
Splattered
pedal
ice
flip flop

Cory Manahan: (Man) or machine :D

(Tribe Note: OK, I don't believe Cory understood this question because all he had wrote down was "or machine" next to 'Man' above. So seeing his confusion with this question and the fact he had skipped another question, I sent him this message.....

--Hey dude, I just wanted to let you know that there where 2 questions you did not answer and that the default answer to any unanswered questions is,

"I really, really enjoy eating poop."

So I was wanting to give you the opportunity to answer them. --

He then answered the other question he had forgot and sent this along for this question.

--Hey
Sorry! haha
Splattered Blood everywhere, happydays--

With this answer I decided to just let it be because I was really confused.. What's the moral of this story?

1- Cory Really, Really likes eating poop.

2- Stay in school kids! Stay in school!     )

SplatterTribe: What visually comes to mind when you hear the word SplatterTribe?

Cory Manahan:  Blood Splattered everywhere {:

(Tribe Note: This was not the other question Cory had not answered. It was in fact, the next question is the question he had not answered. Soooooooooo, the fact that this answer and the answer to the previous question are basically the same, is just a coincidence....I think....I don't know..... I know Cory really, really likes eating poop though....)

SplatterTribe:  I ask everyone I interview if they have a random question I can ask a future interviewee. The question can be anything serious or tongue in cheek. This question is from a while back when I interviewed Mop & Pop Skateshop owner Mike Smallwood of Sparky's Skateshop. His question was

"Name 3 albums that remind you of a specific time in your life and explain."

Cory Manahan:

Ozzy Osbourne - Ozzmosis, When I was 11, listen to it with my dad.

Alice In Chains - Dirt, Young driving to Niagara falls with dad.

Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss - me and my dad driving around in Toronto.

SplatterTribe: Do you have a good random question to ask the next person I interview?

Cory Manahan: What's your top 5 Metal albums?

SplatterTribe: OK, you are 16, so out of curiosity, do you get grounded, when was the last time you where grounded and what happens when you get grounded, if you get grounded?

Cory Manahan: I never get grounded because I'm always playing shows, its also my job so its badass!

SplatterTribe: Do you have any question you would like to ask me?

Cory Manahan: Have you heard my music! hah

(Tribe Note: I have now!)

SplatterTribe: If you where to start your own Musicians Hall Of Fame (Individuals, not groups) who would be your first 5 nominees?

Cory Manahan: Phil Anselmo, Ozzy, Zakk Wylde, Dimebag, James Hetfield

SplatterTribe: OK, songwriting time. This one also goes back to my interview with Mike Smallwood.  I wrote 2 lines to a song and then he wrote 2 more. I want you to now write 2 more lines. Here's what we got.

Me: I've broke ever clock in the house
So someone tell me what time it is now

Mike: Full of pain and disgust for you
I'm no more than sweat on your brow

Cory Manahan: Never look back, Never Turn back
See the Future, See the Past
