Interview with Miss
May 2010, Deneen Melody |
SplatterTribe:
Introduce
and compare yourself to something that
comes in powder form. Then explain why
the comparison.
Deneen
Melody:
Hi
kids! My
name is
Deneen
Melody,
and if I
was some
form of
powder,
I would
most
likely
be
Blastin'
Berry
Cherry
flavored
Kool-Aid.
Why?
Well…I
may be
berry
sweet (har
har),
but I am
also a
blast of
crazy
cherry
flavor
and a
good
source
of
Vitamin
C. It is
true, I
tell
you!
Don’t
let
anyone
convince
you that
you
shouldn’t
be
drinking
me.
SplatterTribe:
For
anyone
that has
no idea
who
Deneen
Melody
is,
give us
a
history
please!
Deneen
Melody:
Well,
hmmm.
I’m a
Native
Texan,
the
youngest
of 8
children,
and a
former
ballerina
that now
lives in
the
Chicago
area.

I love
to kick ass, get extremely bloody, and do crazy stuff in horror films. (Although, I am starting to focus on all film genres, especially drama.) When I’m not running around screaming in horror films, I model for comic books (Comic Book Divas and Legion Studios) and do stunt classes, because I enjoy being thrown around and beating up men twice my size. That is pretty much it. Oh, and I’m obsessed with Lord of the Rings. You’ll probably see me mention it several times in this interview.
SplatterTribe:
If
you where going to be eaten by
something, would you have a preference?
Deneen
Melody:
Oh,
man…most people are expecting me to say
a zombie, because I like zombies, but
I’m going to have to say the great
Kraken sea monster. You know, I
don’t even know if he eats people or
not, but apparently I’m related to him,
so maybe he would realize that and spit
me right back out. (If he does eat
people and doesn’t just drown them with
his big tentacles.)
(Tribe
Note: Are you "apparently" related
because you are also a sea monster? You
don't look like a sea monster...)
SplatterTribe:
Tell us a little about the movies you have been involved in and will be involved in.
Deneen Melody:
Aw,
I wish I could list and talk about them all, but to save
time, I will mention some of my latest and upcoming
projects:
As Night
Falls
(www.asnightfallsthemovie.com)
– I worked on this feature film
this past January/February and I have to say that is very
dear to my heart. It is written and directed by Joe
Davison (100 Tears, Experiment 7) and was
produced by Joe Davison, Dwight Cenac, and
Robert J. Massetti of Fear Film. “As Night
Falls” is an action/horror with lots of comedy, hot
cars, evil ghosts, zombies, and more. (Oh yes, there is
more!) I play the heroine, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Croft,
who kicks some serious butt through out the course of the
movie. The film also stars Dwight Cenac as Otto,
Lily Cardone as Holly Croft, Joe
Davison as Charlie Croft, Raine Brown
as Stephanie, Grace Chapman as
Amelia, Michael Ellison as the Evil Father,
and the wonderful Debbie Rochon as the Evil Mother.
(Also, the beautiful
Miss April,
Julie Anne, plays a role in the film!) The crew that
worked on this movie is also just fantastic! I made so many
wonderful friends working on this set…I hope to work with
them again very soon.
Slices of Life
(www.slicesoflifemovie.com)
– This is a horror anthology I worked on with the wonderful
guys of Tiny Core Pictures. It is a feature that
includes three different segments (W.O.R.M., AMBER ALERT,
and PINK SNAPPER) and a wrap around story (SKETCHER)
that connects all of them together. It was directed by one
of my favorite directors, Anthony Sumer, and was
written by Anthony Sumner, Eric Richter, and
Alan Rowe Kelly. The segment I am involved in, “Pink
Snapper”, is the final chapter of the anthology, and is
a total bloodbath that horror fans are going to absolutely
love. My character and her brother (played by Galen
Schloming) escape from a sexually abusive home, only to
stumble across a beautiful Victorian mansion that hides
something much, much worse. “Slices of Life” features
a fantastic ensemble cast including Jack Guasta,
Toya Turner, Judith Lesser, Kaylee Williams,
Helen Alter-Dyche, Marv Blauvelt, and the
amazing Alan Rowe Kelly.
Western X
(www.westernxtheshow.com)
– This is one of my favorite projects:
“Western X”, a
supernatural western, is an upcoming web series
created by Michael Flores of Cazador Productions.
It features a fantastic cast including Dustin Hale,
Richard Anderson, Jayson James, Anthony
Tempesta, Jerry Eselgroth, Kaily Alissano,
Aaron Ginn-Forsberg, Angelique Deuitch, and
several members of the awesome Arizona Roughriders Stunt
Group. It also stars the absolutely AMAZING and iconic
Vernon G. Wells, so I think a lot of people are going
to dig this series when it is finished.
Master’s Devils
(www.mastersdevilsthemovie.legionstudios.com)
– This is a fun little movie I worked on last fall by
Nine Day Fall Productions, and it should actually be
available online this summer. It’s a story about 5 devil
gals that show up to a bar full of horrible, sleazy,
pig-headed men…and basically put them in their place. I
played the wild badass of the group, Devlynn Envy,
who is SUCH a fun character! Based on the comic by the
wonderful crew of Legion Studios, “Master’s Devils”
also stars Kristin Montgomery, Kaylee Williams,
Sofiya Smirnova, Lyxi Brinkman, and features a
wonderful bit by Ari “First Jason” Lehman. We all had
a blast making this one, and I cannot praise the Legion
crew enough. They are absolutely rocking!
The Dead Light District
(www.deadlightmovie.com)
– Shooting in June, this is a new film by K.M.
Jamison (Serial: Amoral Uprising) and All
Night Pictures. When I was asked to be a part of this, I
couldn’t turn it down. K.M. did some absolutely
amazing work on “Serial”, and to have a chance to be
in one of his films is such a great opportunity. I’ll be
playing the role of Josie in this film, a prostitute
that resides in the Red Light District. Some of the
cast includes Christopher Howell, Paul Sanders,
Ari “First Jason” Lehman, Elske McCain,
Colleen Miller, Tim Krueger, Bruce Spielbauer,
and Kelsey Zukowski.
Psycho Street
(www.psychostreet.com)
–
Like “Slices of Life”,
this is another feature length horror anthology created by
Raine Brown and Marv Blauvelt, two very
talented actors that have put a lot of love and dedication
into this project. I was asked to play the lead character
in the final segment, “LEWIS”, which is going to be
directed by Anthony Sumner (from “Slices”!)
and also features a FANTASTIC cast that includes Susan
Adriensen, Jerry Murdock, and Marv Blauvelt.
I don’t want to give anything away, but I will say that this
is a rather disturbing occult film and I cannot wait to
shoot it! (We film at the end of this month…)
Some of my other projects include: “Distortion”
by the talented Richard Diaz, “Dinner Date” by
Claire Fluff Ryan (she is a sweetheart), “She-Bang!”
by Ryan Oliver, “Dinner for Three” by Bryan
Dressel, and the upcoming remake to the “Don’t Look
in the Basement!” grind house flick, which will be
directed by Alan Rowe Kelly and Anthony Sumner.
SplatterTribe:
If you where to mate with any movie related species,
beside's a human, what would be your preference?
Deneen
Melody:
Oh. That is easy….a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle,
especially Raphael. In fact, Raphael was my
first crush. I was convinced I was going to marry him when
I was 5 years old. He is one sexy turtle! I also wouldn’t be
against hooking up with an elf from Middle Earth.
Legolas Greenleaf is my dream man…er…elf.
|

|
SplatterTribe:
If a company made a doll of you that included one of those pull strings, you know, where you pull the string and the doll says a phrase, what are three phrases your doll would most certainly say?
Deneen Melody:
a) I LOVE YOU! - Because I like to say this to everyone.
Some people get mad
or
|
annoyed at me, because they’re all like, “You don’t know me, how can you love me?” or “That is silly. You don’t love everyone!”…but that is not true. I DO love everyone…unless you’re dumb. Then I don’t love you, but I’ll say I do anyway, because saying otherwise is rude.
b) RAWR!!! – Yes, I like to say rawr.
c) My preciousssss. – Who doesn’t pretend to be Gollum from time to time?
SplatterTribe:
Define these words as they pertain to you.
Deneen Melody:
Music: Music
has always been extremely important to me. I honestly
couldn’t imagine a world without it, I really couldn’t. When
I was growing up, I didn’t even have a TV in my room, so I
would stay up and fall asleep listening to classical music.
Being a dancer, it has always been an important part of my
life…and even now with film, I find that the right type of
music is needed to make a movie flow. The music plays a huge
part in some of my favorite films, such as “Road to
Perdition”, “The Fountain”, “The Village”
and yes, “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
Entertainment:
Being
an entertainer, I have a huge amount of respect for the
entertainment business and everyone involved. (Aside from
the negativity, gossip, and superficial folks that hang
around from time to time.) Television, movies, songs, books,
poems, theater…it all helps people explore their imagination
and reach into their own creativity. The world would be a
very boring place indeed without entertainment, and I am
proud to be involved in the film world.
Art:
My
life is full of art. Whether it is with acting, dancing,
singing, photography, or writing poetry (yes, most people do
not know I keep journals of poetry), I find art to be
something I must always have around me.
Life: I love
life…it is truly beautiful and I keep a positive outlook as
much as possible. I just don’t see the point of being
depressed all the time or not caring about life. I
have met several people that are just so unhappy, and
rightfully so due to their experiences, but there is really
SO much more out there! Life is short, it really is, and
letting the worst get to you will only hold you down
,

SplatterTribe:
Make one combined sentence out of the following words or phrases:
-Back
Pack
-Melody
-Splattered
-Candle
-Fax
Machine
-Frog
Deneen
Melody:
Melody stuffed her
back pack
with a frog
|

|
splattered candle she received through the fax
machine. Ew.
(Tribe Note: The old Frog Splattered Candles. SplatterTribe had a line of those at one time, but, unfortunately, PETA shut us down. We where making a killing off those things...)
SplatterTribe:
What comes to mind when you hear the word SplatterTribe?
Deneen Melody:
The
first thing that pops into my mind is a bunch of wild,
tough, crazy looking women that live in the Amazon
somewhere. They’re probably very brutal and wouldn’t show
you any mercy if you stumbled upon their land, even by
accident. I don’t think they’re a very nice Tribe, but
they’re sure badass!
SplatterTribe:
If
you where going to audition for a movie entitled
SplatterTribe, how would you dress?
Deneen Melody:
I don’t think I would even bother getting dressed. I would probably just cover myself in fake blood and dirt, mess up my hair, grab some sharp weapons, and show up…very wild, very intense. As I mentioned above, SplatterTribe makes me think of a group of strong, animalistic, Amazonian women who mean business! Rawr!
(Tribe Note: Your Hired!)
SplatterTribe:
I
ask each 'Miss' if she has a question I can ask the next
'Miss', so this question comes from
'Miss April'
Julie Anne, and her question is...
-What made you decide to Entertain?-
Deneen
Melody:
When I was little, I would
always want to go to dance class, perform, or find my way in
front of the home video camera…so I believe this was
something I always wanted to do. When I wasn’t able to
continue ballet, I moved
|
towards other types of dance, then finally to film. It isn’t an ego thing, not at all, but there is a passion there that just makes me want to act. I enjoy being able to make myself into a different person for the sake of film, and to put my heart and soul into every project I do.
P.S. I love you, Julie Anne! J
SplatterTribe:
Do you have
a good, random question I can ask Miss June?
Deneen Melody:
Who would you rather side with…the pirates or ninjas? (And
you must pick one! Only one!)
SplatterTribe:
Do you have a question you would like to ask me?
Deneen Melody:
Which would |

|
you
rather face? A couple of crazy fast zombies, or a large
group of slow ones?
(Tribe Note:
Easy... A large group of slow ones, because with that many
possibilities...I'm bound to get the 'Zombie Kill Of The
Week' outta one of'm!)
SplatterTribe:
Do you believe...?
Deneen Melody:
--in ghosts?
Yes.
I had to fight them in my last film.
--in UFOs?
Yes. I do not believe we are the only beings in
the universe .
--in conspiracy theories?
Depends
on which ones.
--in Sasquatch? Yes.
I’m pretty sure I see a few of them everyday.
--in Zombies?
Heck yes! I believe people can, and will, come back from
the dead and attack the living. It is just a matter of time.
--that the world will end in
2012? –
Well,
if it does, I hope to be with John Cusack. Apparently, I
will be ok if I stay around him. I saw it in that one
movie….he escapes everything! (Although, seriously, no…I do
not believe it will end in 2012. Calm down, people!)
--in 2nd chances?
Most
of the time, yes, but things aren’t always black and white,
so second chances can be hard to give at times.
--in miracles?
Of
course I do. There are so many wonderful and inspiring
things that happen day to day that MUST come from a high
power.
--in magic?
Uh,
yeah…Harry Potter, anyone? (For the record, I would totally
be in Gryffindor. That is what Facebook told me.)
--in Karma?
Definitely.
If you are negative and rude towards others, that will
always come back around. If you are kind and generous, there
may be a few that try to bring you down, but you’ll always
come out on top.
--that we landed on the moon?
Wait…what?!?
We landed on the moon?
--in reincarnation?
Nah.
This isn’t the only life we have, but I don’t think we keep
coming back to the same world. (Unless we come back as
zombies…dun dun dun!)
SplatterTribe:
If you where going to kill
me, what would be the best way to distract you?
Deneen Melody:
Put the Lord of the Rings trilogy into the DVD player and press play. I will behave like a good little girl. There are a few parts in which I may get up and run around the room out of excitement, but aside from that, it would give you plenty of time to get away. (Or call the cops.)
SplatterTribe:
Tell me a secret about you that you do not want me to tell
anyone else...
Deneen Melody:
Nu-uh,
Mister! Nice try, but I ain’t falling for that. No secrets
here.
(Tribe Note: C'mon... I
promised I wouldn't tell...)
SplatterTribe:
What is your favorite non-scary movie?
|

|
Deneen Melody:
The
Lord of the Rings trilogy!!! Although, some people
think parts of it are scary…so…I’ll throw in “The Last
Unicorn” as well, since it has always been one of my
favorite films. Oh, and “Beauty and the Beast”. I
don’t think that one really scares anyone, unless you have a
fear of talking clocks and teapots. I’m also a huge fan of
the “Kill Bill” films…would love to work with
Quentin Tarantino someday.
(Tribe Note: ...Uhm...(GASP)...What did you
say?... Talking Clocks & Teapots...? Ahhhhhh!)
(Tribe Note, Note:
Well, I mean, at least you didn't say
'Talking Pot and Teaclocks'... because I do not want to
relive that situation!... or...do I?)
(Tribe Note, Note, Note: BTW, How
do you properly type a scream? Jus' curious...)
|
SplatterTribe:
Songwriting time! I wrote 2 lines to a verse and then the
last 4 'Miss's' added 2 lines each. It's your turn to add 2
more! It could be Chorus time...
|
Me:
|
Anymore I don't care if these walls fall down
I'll just dig a rut and live in the ground |
|
Roni Jonah:
|
Be the ruler of my underground town
Sex and Violence, spread it around |
|
Chromegirl:
|
I will make sense of these things I've found
Living, Breathing, disappearing into the sound
|
|
Danielle:
|
A fallen angel: broken, tattered and torn
Savior of those who should have never been born |
|
Haley T:
|
A lifeless decision of all they could be,
feeling as if they've been cast out to sea
|
|
Julie Anne:
|
Never give up, never give in
Life’s full of choices, decide if you win
|
|
Your Turn: |
|
|
|
|
Deneen Melody: Oh, so don’t run away, stay by my side
We can get through this, there’s no reason to hide
(Tribe Note: What an
eclectic song this is turning out to be...)
SplatterTribe:
Now that you
are SplatterTribe.TV's Miss May, what are you going to do next?
Deneen
Melody:
I think I am going to get some sleep…or at least try to. I am exhausted! All
this talk of zombies, Krakens, and song lyrics sure has me pooped.
SplatterTribe: Any closing comments concerning anything you want said, known, printed or shown?
Deneen
Melody:
First,
thank you so much for asking me to be Miss
May! I’ve never been a Miss May
before, so this is an honor. I rather like this
month. Also, just a few plugs for my projects!
