George Glenn Jones

(born September 12, 1931 in Saratoga, Texas), is an American country music singer known for his long list of hit records, his distinctive voice and phrasing, and his marriage to Tammy Wynette.

Over the past twenty years, Jones has frequently been referred to as "the greatest living country singer". The country music scholar Bill C. Malone writes, "For the two or three minutes consumed by a song, Jones immerses himself so completely in its lyrics, and in the mood it conveys, that the listener can scarcely avoid becoming similarly involved."

Throughout his long career, Jones made headlines often as much for tales of his drinking, stormy relationships with women, and violent rages as for his prolific career of making records and touring. His wild lifestyle led to Jones missing many performances, earning him the nickname "No Show Jones." With the help of his fourth wife, Nancy, he has been sober for many years. Jones clocked up more than 150 hits during his career, both as a solo artist and in duets with other artists.

You know, I've seen more concerts and more artists perform than I can even remember, this is one I will not forget though. I sometimes compile a list in my head of bands and artists I would like to see perform and a major part of that list is the old school Country Outlaws because they are the original artists to go beyond and outlive what is known today as FADS and as TRENDS.

I started as a full fledged Rock/Metal guy - flat out - but as I started realizing what trends and fads were, my musical taste's expanded. One of those expansions was Waylon Jennings. The sad part about that story is the year I really started appreciating Waylon Jennings at a full time level was a year before he died. I remember being really bummed about it, because this was a legend of Music that I did not take the time to appreciate until he in his last year of life.

I never got to Waylon Jennings perform live.

Then a year later another Outlaw by the name of Johnny Cash passed away. Once again I was really bummed at the fact that another great American artist, that I did not appreciate early enough in my life had passed at a time when I fully appreciated him.

I never got to see Johnny Cash perform live.

On Friday, February 13th, at Rupp Arena in Lexington Kentucky,  George Jones performed. At 77 years old, a Legend took the stage and left me with one of the single-most memorable concert experiences of my life.

I got to see George Jones perform live.

1) Almost Serenity

2) A Lover's War

3)The Sinner Licked By Redder Flames

4)Lucy's Eyes

5) The Black Cherubim

6) Between Tyranny and Freedom

7) Cataract Vision

8) Failure To Thrive

9) That Filthy Effigy

10) Reflections Of A Reject

11) We Turn To Stone

OK, first off after exploring all the pics related to the album cover, I've decided this is one of the most disturbing album covers I've ever seen .

Parts of this cd really make me angry. I don't know why. It just brings it out of me! It makes me feel like something is trying to get into my head. Whether that is good or bad, I do not know. I guess that would depend on what it is that is getting into my head.

Anyway, all that aside, there really are some cool, diverse musical changes within these songs. I mean it definitely favors the Electronic/Industrial genre but the melody and musical changes it presents along with Anthemic Metal undertones and Punk attitude makes this cd an interesting listening experience.  Like being pounded in the head while someone is whispering lullaby's into your ear...........

If your into this type of stuff, I highly recommend this cd. Now, GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!! -----Primal

Hank III

Damn Right - Rebel Proud (2008)

SplatterTribe Description :Traditional Country Meets Mindf!ck and Rage Once Again Through Hank III

1) The Grand Ole Opry Ain’t So Grand

2) Wild & Free

3) Me and My Friends

4) 6 Pack of Beer

5) I Wish I Knew

6) If You Can’t Help Your Own

7) Candidate for Suicide

8) H8 Line

9) Long Hauls and Close Calls

10)  Stoned and Alone

11) P.F.F

12) 3 Shades of Black

13) Workin Man

A few years back Hank Williams Jr had a song entitled "The F-word" , I won't get into all aspects of that song, cause I dare say it wasn't one of  Hank III's favorite songs by his dad. The fact is though, if a legend like Hank Jr says 'In Country Music, You Just Don't Use The F-Word', then I guess you couldn't call this cd Country. But, on the same note, David Allen Coe has used the F-Word quite often (As well as every other word you can think of) and is known for singing the lines, 'If That Ain't Country, I'll Kiss Your Ass'. -AND- The fact is, if there is a man walking this Earth right now that thinks David Allen Coe will kiss their ass then you are a silly sonofabitch!

So, the dilemma I'm having is trying to describe Hank III and his newest cd 'Damn Right Rebel Proud' to someone who has no idea who he is.  So I'll call it this, Modern Day, ORIGINAL, Outlaw, Hillbilly Psychobilly  Country Music at it's most Extreme and True form., Kind of a combination of all Outlaw Country Music from Hank Sr to David Allen Coe. It goes by Hank III though and honestly the only true description for this cd that I can give is BAD-ASS! ------Primal

I will say that this review will certainly be biased and ill go ahead and apologize from the start. I've never been a big fan of female lead singers in rock, call it chauvinistic if you like, right or wrong, it is what it is.
I picked up In This Moments first cd -Beautiful Tragedy - and was blown away by Maria Brinks' hardcore vocals, for the first time, I felt it, and it was awesome. so in the anticipation of the second cd, I hyped myself up for what I though was going to be another cd of shredding music - but I was in for a shock.
As soon as the cd went in I looked for the scream , the voice, the growl, but instead i got something a little different. I must say I wasn't happy about it, but as I started over and instead of looking for something, I let something be shown to me, and I must say, what an awesome disc, its alternated between my Sky Eats Airplane, and that pretty much is all I listen to right now.
First, this disc is a story, all the songs connect but stand alone by themselves as well, from the intro to "The Rabbit Hole" to the incredible ending guitar solo at the end of "Forever", to the crunch of "The Great Divide" to the most deep feeling, building and finally climactic vocals on the final track "The Dream". this disc provides a fulfilling meal versus all the "snacks" that are out there. The Guitars rock. the bass is heavy and thumping, the drummer, well lets just say he's not vacationing and earns every penny he gets, and of course the vocals , written my Misses Brink mean something, not just to her, but in anyone's life that actually "listens" to this band.
These musicians care about their music and I have been converted to a more open mind to the music I listen to.
I highly recommend checking this one out if you not locked into a closet of your own music choices, I promise, you wont be disappointed. ------Grim

I've always been a fan of Stuck Mojo. Formed in 1989, I remember the first time I actually saw them, on WCW Thursday night, they were doing the theme music for Diamond Dallas Page, and I was hooked.
Having never been a fan of rap I was a little apprehensive about this type of fusion but then I got the Rich Ward, otherwise known as "The Duke", full blown assault  and I've purchased everything he's been on since.
This cd was originally released via internet only and the first 1000 copies were signed by the band and I got my order in late, but, "The Duke " himself took it on himself to continue to sign ordered copies and I felt a real connection because it seems my loyalty to the group was repaid in a small way.
The disc was rereleased last month to retail, with a few bonus tracks, and I'm here to say that this album has a message that we all feel, even if its primal, the words and music speak to the passion we all have felt since 9/11. "when you step in my hood , its understood, its open season"
If you don't like rap, like me, then you'll understand how weird it is for me personally to acknowledge my allegiance to Stuck Mojo. They've been around long enough to claim their place in the old school level, but still manage to impress with a new lead singer/ rapper and I for one love this disc.
Stuck Mojo's next release "The Great Revival" is due out January 13th here in the states and I for one am ordering my copy now!
peace! ------Grim

((Thorlock))

((Thorlock)) (2008)

1: Assneck
2: Man will lose
3: Deuce
4: Mississippi Wheelwash
5: Triceratops
6: Extinct
7: Rockin in the Free World
8: Beyond Cosmic Dimensions

There's nothing like the feeling of putting a new cd in the player and fuking loving it from the first spin.
((THORLOCK)) is releasing their new disc and my lucky ears got a sneak preview.
First track, "ASSNECK", that's right, grinds you from the get go. And it jumps right into "MAN WILL LOSE" which continues the full frontal assault from this trio that's knows how to give us the basic, all you need ,all you want rock n fukin roll.
Of course they have to show tribute to the likes of KISS' "DUECE" and Neil Young's "ROCKIN IN THE FREE WORLD" ,and I compliment the guys on their homage to two of the forefathers of rock music.
I guess my choice track is "BEYOND COSMIC DIMENSIONS" an 17 plus minute opus which can only be described as an infusion of early Pink Floyd/Clutch/OLD Monster Magnet/ and something ((Thorlock)) themselves can only bring.
Eight tracks in all and I've finally got something other than my Sky Eats Airplane cd to listen to.
There's one thing I will say about ((Thorlock)) that you don't see in a majority of the so called groups we have in the mainstream, the ability to carry a song, every song, from the beginning to the end,........ thank god for independent, unhindered artist
.-----Grim
